It's up to us to elect officials who support bills providing benefits for those with disabilities

In a week from today you will have the opportunity to exercise what I feel is your most important right. The Right to Vote.

There is enough political commentary out there, I have no intention of adding to it by telling you who I think you should vote for. Instead, I would just like to ask you to vote. And encourage your children to vote. It's up to us to elect officials who support bills providing benefits for those with disabilities. We can see what happens when programs lack funding, take a look at your state’s Medicaid Waiver waiting list.

Our votes matter. Our Senators and Congressman make the laws governing how much, or how little, help our kids can get. Supreme Court Justices appointed by Presidents and confirmed by the Senate weigh in on whether these laws can stay in effect. Governors and their State Assemblies control the purse strings that fund your State’s Medicaid Waivers.

I voted by mail, and it’s already been counted in my home state. Protect the right to vote early and by mail. Not all of us can get to the polls. Even if we can, many of us don’t have the “luxury” of waiting several hours to cast our vote.

Please vote. Please encourage your children to vote. Please make sure your voice, and the voices of everyone with a disability, is heard.
